There have been whisperings about this for a while now, and at midnight last night the TribeOne Dinokeng official Facebook page announced that the festival, which had been billed as ‘Africa’s Biggest Music Festival’, has been canceled.
The event was a collaboration between a number of parties, the most prominent of which were Rockstar 4000 and the City of Tshwane. It has been alleged that a substantial amount of money was put in by the City to make the chosen site workable, but in their post Rockstar 4000 blamed the cancelation on a failure by the City to adequately provide what was needed to make it happen. Business Day Live are reporting that the City will take Rockstar 4000 to court to force the event to take place.
Either way, it doesn’t seem likely that Nicki Minaj, Macklemore, Jay Cole, and other foreign superstars that were set to perform in the country will be making the trip South next weekend. Those who bought tickets have been assured they’ll be reimbursed, so those trying to get back the R1550 they would’ve spent on a full weekend ticket should keep their eyes on the TribeOne Facebook page for further details.
