Tomorrow night, DRK&LVLY Records, Cape Town’s SLABOFMISUSE’s label, are launching a new series called Beauty and the Beats. The series is an interesting amalgamation of different ideas and disciplines.
The series will comprise of both digital compilation releases and live events. The first volumes features a promised “all star line-up of seriously talented producers putting out some of the freshest music, locally and abroad.”
The first event takes place tomorrow night at Radar advertising agency and the headlining act will be recent SAMA award winner and one of Cape Town’s top musicians, Shane Cooper, aka Card On Spokes. Radar will also be launching their World Design Capital Gallery Space alongside the series on the night. In addition to the music, there will be a talk from Mr Tahier Variawa, the Head of Design at Radar, as well as a curated exhibition of works form notable local artists and designers. Each event will be filmed by a team, with the resulting video going live on the internet a few weeks after the event takes place.
This seems like a wonderful integration of a number of vital aspects of the Cape Town creative scene, and seems set to be a boundary-pushing series, both for events and for the music community.
The event starts at 7PM and is free before 9PM, whereafter a fee of R50 will be charged.
