There is currently a debate ensuing on social media about the video released by Fader in collaboration with the Sprite Obey You Collective and its misleading and exclusionary view on the Cape Town music scene. However, the CTEMF 2014 round-up video was released today and, whilst being released fairly long after the actual event, it’s no wonder that the festival’s reception and success have been seamlessly translated into the video’s execution.
This video needs to be seen by everyone so that those who have criticised the Fader video may choose to use it as an example of how brands and foreign establishments that wish to associate themselves with a Cape Town scene or subculture need to make a greater effort in order to reflect a more inclusionary and more socially progressive representation.
