For the past few weeks Culoe De Song, one of South Africa’s brightest deep house exports, has been teasing the release of his third full length album, following 2013’s Exodus. The album promised to be De Song’s most conceptually ambitious album, as some of the first snippets from the album were spoken word including sci-fi-style narratives describing a world named Guzu. According to De Song, music is the main tool used to rebuild Guzu’s kingdom, and the album itself is a major component in this rebuilding.
Whether you read into the story or not, the album contains signature Culoe De Song, with deep rhythms and layered instrumentation. Previously heard songs such as ‘Umoya’ have also made it onto the 18-track effort, which has (so far) made it to no. 2 on the SA iTunes’ album chart.
