Johannesburg based bass producer Escapism Refuge has been (relatively) quietly releasing nocturnal bass music for a few years. Three years ago he released the Back and Forth EP, which saw him taking his well established style and refining it with a level of polish and finesse that drew many new listeners to his work. A few of those listeners, it seems, were from the modern mecca of bass music and ER has just released a new EP on London’s Deep Heads label, entitled Traps.
This latest release sees Refuge dialling his sound back a bit and doubling down on both the midnight vibe and intricacies of his style. The low slung title track is a particular highlight, so plug your subs in to stream it below, and buy the record from iTunes, Juno or the Deep Heads Bandcamp.
