CAPE TOWN: In the recent wake of the closing of The Assembly which, for many years held the title of Cape Town’s premiere live venue, there have been a few recent events scattered across the greater music scene, which have highlighted the potential for previously unused spaces.
F Sharp Music is a music and sound production company based in Woodstock who have put together a fantastic line-up for a show which fits snugly in the category of the previously mentioned events. It’s taking place this evening (Friday) in Cape Town at the Centre for the Book situated on the edge of the Company’s Garden, in Queen Victoria Street.
The line-up includes an outfit led by Cape Town’s most celebrated trumpeter, the Lee Thomson Quintet (known by many from Closet Snare and Hog Hoggidy Hogg), violinist Luca Hart, underrated sultry soul man Manny Walters and the debut appearance by heartthrob duo Cute Couple. The act consisting of Mark Reichardt and Conor McCarthy (both of The Aztec Sapphire adoration) have been maintaining our intrigue with the release of their stellar, quirky-yet-oozing-with-charm videos for singles ‘Noble Rot’ and ‘Far From Close To You’.
Their foray into live performance sees them take the step from a two-man writing and production team to employing the chops of Cape Town favourite Nicolaas van Reenen (of Fever Trails and Bateleur), as well as Nick Hurworth and Rowan Blem.
Sidenote: Cute Couple’s Mark Reichardt is also the artist responsible for the artwork for Fever Trails’ upcoming release, Wax Bridge, details here.
