New Alt-Pop Duo, Lindiwe The Ghost, Fighting Homophobia Through Visuals for New Single

Lindiwe The Ghost Ghost in a Blood Machine

Seemingly out of nowhere, brand new alt-pop duo, Lindiwe The Ghost, have released an arrestingly beautiful dance-centric music video for their debut single, ‘Ghost in a Blood Machine.’

As 10and5 reported this morning, the video was directed by emergent film-maker, Georgina Warner, and the dance piece was choreographed and performed by Chester Martinez, who is dancing alongside FKA Twigs on her current tour. Performing the piece alongside him is Cape Town ballet artist Devon Marshbank.

The dance piece grapples with ideas of internalised homophobia within queer people and the consequences of the bad religion of self-loathing within queer relationships.

The duo, comprised of Evan Strauss and Shannon Devy, performed their first show last Tuesday at the Waiting Room in Cape Town. Although the performance had a few of the understandable first-public-show creases to be ironed out in future, the vocal performances from both Strauss and Devy were gripping and powerful.

Although the name of the act may run into issues of appropriative identity – which will have to addressed – the musicality, aesthetic integrity and the progressive message of this first outing into the public sphere promises that this duo could be something immensely powerful.

Immerse yourself in the throbbing basslines, pretty lead lines and the mournful and melancholic vocals, then keep up with Lindiwe The Ghost on Facebook.
