Midway through February, Nigerian-born, Ghana-based recording artist, Mr Eazi (born Oluwatosin Ajibade), dropped the much-anticipated Life is Eazi Mixtape Vol.1 (Accra to Lagos). The release marks his inaugural offering off of Wizkid’s Starboy imprint, as well as signalling the first high-profile body of work to follow hot on the heels of the medley of popular singles that Mr. Eazi churned out last year.
Among these, you’ll find the earworm guitar-refrain of ‘Leg Over’ — the best-known cut thus far — and the suave groove of ‘In the Morning’, the crossover potential of which was bolstered by a Zane Lowe endorsement on the recent Beats 1 radio show. Thanks to an OVO-assist, ‘In The Morning’ features a cameo from Big Lean, a relatively unknown artist, and due to the track’s success, has provided exposure for both artists to each other’s respective fanbases.
Despite having been controversially snubbed at the Ghana Music Awards last year due to a technicality in the rules, Mr Eazi has nevertheless opted to source inspiration for his output from two cities that are closest to his heart: Accra and Lagos. The mixtape dishes out delightful melodies and infectious choruses from a melting pot of sonic influences that span the length and breadth of both the metropolises in the mixtape’s title.
