On ‘4 Degrees’, ANOHNI, formerly known as Antony Hegarty (of Antony & The Johnsons fame), collaborates with Oneohtrix Point Never and Hudson Mohawk. It’s the first cut of her forthcoming LP, Hopelessness. The result is a conscientious rally with the urgency of a racing heartbeat; one replete with disquieting sonic overtones equalised by the lyrical content.
It’s fitting that the instrumental provides the engineered clamour that it does: the topic on ANOHNI’s mind is, after all, the Apocalypse, following the systemic death of the world’s creatures after the predicted 4 degree temperature increase before the turn of the century. It’s a devastating notion whereby the artist calls for us to admit accountability through first admitting it herself.
