East Rand rapper Priddy Ugly recently released ‘Tshela’, his first single under Ambitiouz Ent. Just after signing with the label a few months ago, the rapper released a remix of his song ‘In The Mood’. The remix is one of Priddy Ugly’s most visible songs to date, playing on most major radio and TV stations, which proves just how much labels have control in South African hip-hop.
‘Tshela’ sees Priddy Ugly ride a bass-heavy instrumental courtesy of his long-time producer Wichi 1080, and rap mostly in vernac, which we haven’t seen that much from him in previous releases. Priddy Ugly and Wichi 1080 have undeniably great chemistry, with every aspect of the song seeming effortless. Priddy is so comfortable, he even finds time to laugh in between some lines.
‘Tshela’ is the first single on Priddy Ugly’s debut album EGYPT, and it looks like fans won’t be disappointed. It seems he and Wichi still have that fire they had on the rapper’s EP You Don’t Know Me Yet, a release that remains as one of South African hip-hop’s best kept secrets.
With many South African hip-hop albums falling a little short of fan’s sky-high expectations, many are counting on Priddy Ugly to save the year.
