Following the recent arrest of a South African DJ for playing without a licence, DJ Euphonik interviewed Nicholas Motsatse, the CEO of SAMRO about the ‘why’ and ‘how’ of obtaining a DJ licence for Pulse .
The interview still leaves a lot to be questioned about the legitimacy of SAMRO’s laws and their process of collecting the money generated from the licences and the corresponding distribution to the original artists.
There is a lot of skepticism surrounding the issue, but hopefully SAMRO will manage to prove themselves worthy and credible for having introduced such a licence. If not, they face a wave of doubt and cynicism from the future generation of promising South African musicians.
