Angela Weickl, better known by her stage monikers Sideshow and Good Cop, Bad Cop, has continued her support of young local producers with the announcement of her new initiative, New Slang.
Following on from YOUNGBLOODZ which took place over the course of last year, New Slang gives young producers a chance to gain exposure and experience, as well as share the stage with, some of the country’s top and most established producers. It takes the form of a monthly competition and party, in which a prominent local producer makes available a track for remixing. Young producers will then ‘audition’ to remix the track by submitting a bootleg or original production for consideration, whereafter four producers will be given a two week period to remix the track. The two best remixes will be chosen and made available to the public, and the winning producers will be given a slot performing with that month’s chosen producer.
This month’s producer is one of the country’s most established producers Dank, who is also one half of both Seafood ∆∆∆ and Sedge Warbler. Weickl should be commended for her continuing outstanding support for South African music. Her willingness to share her expertise and support and grow the local industry sets her apart.
