Fans, casual listeners and critics aren’t the only consumers of music. Every fortnight, we ask a prominent or exciting local artist to share five tracks that are currently on rotation on their boombox/diskman/Zune – oldies, latest hits, oddities and obscurities. Welcome to The Booth.

Luc Veermeer is one half of South Africa’s leading electronica outfit, Christian Tiger School. He also produces and DJs under the solo moniker of DESERT_HE∆D. Having played at SXSW in Texas earlier this year and having just returned from a European tour, of which the highlight was playing at Primavera in Barcelona, Veermeer and producing partner Zanasi are back in the country and back to work on an absolute high. Through his contribution to Christian Tiger School and his solo work as DESERT_HE∆D, Veermeer has developed a well-earned reputation as one of the country’s finest producers – particularly in the realm of beatwork and remixes and specifically in hip hop and trap. Here are his 5 tracks:

Drake – Shot For Me (Take Care)

Drake is very personal to me. I like him a lot. Fuck everyone. I have been listening to these tracks a lot.

Drake – Little Bit feat. Lykke Li

Drake – Furthest Thing

Lana Del Ray – Video Games

This holds a special place for sure. ‘Born To Die’ is also a favourite of mine. I love Lana.

Lil B – Katy Perry

This song is ridiculous. Me and Seb [Zanasi] have been listening to this the whole time in Europe up until now. It’s amazing.

YOUNG NIGGA – I Just Bought a Bugatti (I’m Happy)

I dunno why but this song is so funny. I’ve been singing it for like a week now.
