South African music and art collective The Brother Moves On have been booked to play the Oslo World Music Festival in Norway at the end of October. They will be joining South African jazz legend Hugh Masekela, as well as Norway-via-Soweto musician Bafana Nhlapo. The festival has been in existence since 1994 and has since grown to a six day event with over 300 artists. This year’s theme is ‘The Soundtrack of a Nation’, and while it is always going to be especially difficult for a European planned-and-thrown event to discover and distil the soundtrack to a nation thousands of kilometres from it, the selection of The Brother Moves On and Masekela are sure to provide this festival with an authentic and engrossing South African element.
For those who might be in Scandinavia toward the end of this year, the festival takes place from the 28th of October to the 2nd of November. There are still many artists to be announced. You can check out the full list and all news on their website here.
