Ahead of the February 10 release of their new album, I’ll Do What You Want Me To, The Dollfins have let loose the title track. It’s a punchy, straight up-and-down garage rock roar of a song, and confirms the upward trajectory of this band that’s been apparent for a while now. The video, a spinning pastiche of strange, is directed by Beach Party drummer Xander van der Westhuizen. Xander’s cinematography is interesting and tight, as is the editing. It contrasts a conceptual, textural costume-based rig with the conventional punk I-don’t-give-a-fuck attitude. And robots.
If the video’s visual art/punk juxtaposition is anything to go by, there’s everything to suggest that this album might find a new range of depth for this exciting band. We wait in eager anticipation.
I’ll Do What You Want Me To is out this Monday 02/10. The album launch will be held at The Pit on Friday the 14th of February.
