Come Sunday afternoon, the foreshore is going to be awash with a mixture of prime electronic artists, Moombahton, air horns, smoke cannons and most likely a lot of people twerking. The Mad Decent Block Party is a world-renowned throw down of seismic proportions. Spearheaded by Diplo and his label mates over at Mad Decent – the label that brought us the ‘Harlem Shake’ – the party is an exhibition of not quite your regular EDM palette and by the looks of previous parties (all held in the USA until now) it’s going to be a pure spectacle.
The afternoon kicks off with some fine South African talent; White Nite, Ruffest, Das Kapital and Sibot and transitions into trap pioneers Flosstradamus. I’m sure if you’ve been anywhere near a club over the past few years you have most probably heard their track ‘Roll Up’ which was remixed by Mad Decent’s Baauer. After the Chicago Trap duo, Mad Decent’s resident court Jester Dillon Francis is going to take the stage. Known as much for his off stage tomfoolery as he his for his multigenre DJ sets, he’s the perfect choice of DJ to play such a fun party. If you don’t follow him on Instagram, you’re missing out, and those that do will have already had a sneak-peek at his on-tour antics. And to close it all off the boss man Major Lazer will take the stage, hopefully in his see-through hamster ball. Formerly a partnership with UK-based DJ/Producer Switch, it’s now all about Diplo. As the founder of Mad Decent records and having collaborated with nearly every pop star you can think of, Diplo’s a man who understand how to throw a party and will be sure to raise the energy higher than you could expect.
Sunday promises to be a bass heavy day with urban flavours from around the world all served up at a BPM you can’t help but shake your ass to.
