Los-Angeles native Will Wiesenfeld (aka Baths) has evolved from being the compulsive beat-maker that released Cerulean (2010) at the genesis of Internet electronica. Obsidian (2013) marked the beginning of a reclusive fascination with ambience too melancholy for house-party playlists.
Wiesenfeld’s latest single, Ocean Death, marks the pinnacle of his bleak, contemplative dabbling in electronic textures. The track puts feeling over word, submerging any inchoate thoughts in its listeners in the waves and clicks that undulate throughout. After shallow breath of a bridge, Wiesenfeld conjures up a chorus of vaguely familiar loops that will only just satiate his old listeners.
