New York-based alternative-rock trio, Blonde Redhead, have yet to show cracks in the walls that surround their mysterious artistic enclave – they’ve stayed consistent with their outputs for nearly 20 years. Placement in popular culture often has the effect of re-igniting interest in a band: Blonde Redhead certainly reaped some benefit this year through the penultimate episode of the first season of Dan Harmon’s excellent animated television series, Rick and Morty, with impeccable usage of ‘For the Damaged Coda’ during a breathtaking plot-twist.
With the sensual allure of ‘The One I Love’, Blonde Readhead leads the listener to a private chamber-session wherein the sultry-voiced Kazu Makino deliberates and laments over her love while the Pace twins elegantly score her meditation. A tender offering with a hint of darkness is the outcome, as the comparatively menacing, lyric-less closing-passage of the track submits itself to the listener’s imagination.
