For those who were repeatedly stirred by Caribou’s brilliant 2010-released Swim, news of Dan Snaith’s follow-up, and sixth, album was always going to be met with relish. ‘Can’t Do Without You’- the first track off the rosily titled Our Love – sounds like he’s finally caught up with that elusive love that was chased through the silkily dense tracks of Swim

Here, Caribou has used the wherewithal required to churn out so many quality albums to make another and requisite evolution within his brand of electronic pop. ‘Can’t Do Without You’ is slow-building, yet still a straight-up fire-starter. It’s a celebration of some heady, exultant instant that’s been stretched out into something tangible. The breakdown of the swirling sounds created is a long time coming, but the glorious unraveling is sweeter because we’ve been placed at the centre of it all. It’s not Caribou at his most ratcheting and daring, but it’s a timely reminder of the mastery that is well within his grasp.
