Christopher Owens is gearing up to drop his second post-Girls LP, A New Testament, sometime next month. On the languid Lysandre, his first, the void created by the absence of the duo’s bassist/producer other-half, JR White, manifested itself in a set of songs that were sadly dwarfed by both the towering brilliance of the two-some’s 2011 opus dei, Father, Son, Holy Ghost, as well as fans’ break-up-induced mopey-ness.
Having already released several enjoyable singles of late, he appears to have emerged somewhat re-invigorated, with hints of a return to Album-esque poptimism. On the breezy ‘Never Wanna See That Look Again’, a typically reflective but still cheerful Owens makes a picnic out of his catharsis and invites all to partake. It’s a brief, two-minute take that will add some thoughtful sweetness to your day.
