Dornik burst onto the newly-relevant RnB scene with “Something About You”, which was yet another track that managed to skilfully tread the line between RnB and pop by using 80s synth funk as its vessel. The Weeknd, Blood Orange and Frank Ocean have all shown this to be an incredibly fitting combination. And the singer, who was formerly the drummer in Jessie Ware’s backup band, seems to be channelling the latter specifically with his follow-up single, “Rebound”.
It’s a track that would fit comfortably into Ocean’s catalogue – with its springing funk beat and Dornik’s falsetto. And, really, there is no bigger accolade to be given in the genre right now.
