Last week, the Internet gave us London-based pop-starlet, Tahliah Barnett (FKA Twigs), sitting on a mystical throne, singing “Higher than a motherfucker, dreamin’ of it, it’s my lovin” with as much royal tact as Prince Harry’s drunken escapades. ’Two Weeks’ is the first single to be released from Barnett’s LP1, out August 12 via Young Turks, and it sets a precedent for her opulent and lascivious pop trajectory.

Everything FKA Twigs and her associates, such as Yeezus collaborator Arca and flawless director Nabil, have released thus far is a sensory feast, with her music being only one part of the tangible experience. ‘Two Weeks’ is no different, and its themes of lust, power and destruction are inseparable from the splendid absurdity of its video. Barnett sings “I can fuck you better, better” and “Give me two weeks and you won’t recognise her” like the all-powerful goddess she portrays, referencing Aaliyah’s character in Queen of the Damned (2002). Waves of synth-bass surge throughout, punctured by Barnett’s syrupy falsettos, and joined by racing hi-hats reminiscent of Sholomo and Jeremih’s equally carnal ‘No More’ after the 2-minute mark. ‘Two Weeks’ is drenched in wanton confidence, making FKA Twigs’ upcoming LP1 both threatening and irresistible.
