Track of the Day: Foxes in Fiction – Ontario Gothic

“I was trapped under concrete / Built from the memory / Of all the daydreams / That I buried underneath” sings…

“I was trapped under concrete / Built from the memory / Of all the daydreams / That I buried underneath,” sings Warren Hildebrand with innocent conviction on Foxes in Fictions’s latest single release, ‘Ontario Gothic.’ The song immortalises one of Hildebrand’s late childhood friends, to whom their upcoming of the same name is also dedicated.

In true Foxes in Fiction fashion, it features analogue synth samples and cut-and-pasted guitar melodies from Hildebrand’s previous ‘Shadow’s Song’ and ‘Breathing In.’ This characteristic attachment to the past could not be more apt than here: Hildebrand’s mourning becomes tangible as ‘Ontario Gothic’ evolves into a dream-like blend of hope and nostalgia. It sets a beautifully solemn tone for his album, out 23 September via Orchid Tapes.
