Kiasmos is a collaboration between the progressive Icelandic classical composer Ólafur Arnalds and his friend, Faroese Jan Rasmussen. On the stunning and spectral ‘Burnt’ they forge their classical artistry with cacophonous techno swells to majestic effect.

In the same vein as the highly textured and orchestrated electronic music of Jon Hopkins and James Holden, ‘Burnt’ begins with subtle electronic dissonance and delicate piano. The subtle piano chords then give way for swooping and ebullient synth swells, like the oscillations of the aurora borealis. Despite the icy and structured exterior, this is electronic music with a pumping and exultant heart.
