MF Doom is part of a group that includes Madlib and the deceased J Dilla who represent the pioneers of modern experimental and underground hip-hop production. Bishop Nehru may have a far shorter CV, but he is a frighteningly talented young MC who is following hot on the heels of other young and now established New York acts, like A$AP Rocky and Joey Bada$$.

The duo has teamed up as NehruvianDOOM on a collaborative self-titled album. The first single off the album is called, ‘Darkness(HBU)’ and pits Doom’s retro production against Nehru’s burgeoning raps. The slightly menacing beat is a perfect foil for Nehru’s raps that play on the class and race continuum in America, saying, “A lot of these laws open jaws when you’re brown skinned / A gat to your chest, and your complex is honest”. It’s mature and considered work from a young rapper guided by the steady beats of a wise and familiar master.
