Nick Hakim’s ‘I Don’t Know’ is one of those tracks that sound astoundingly private. In fact, with its tinkling smoking room piano, it’s almost perverse in its intimate sincerity. Coming scarcely a month after the release of his debut EP, Where Will We Go Pt.1, Hakim’s cup of creativity appears to be bubbling over. Spouting out earnest guitar melodies that endeared us to likes of King Krule, his sultry voice eventually dissolves into a distorted guitar that warms and lulls and comforts.

Nick Hakim and ‘I Don’t Know’ appear to be many things all at once; the song opens with a lone guitar that ostensibly has dormant, yet delving post-hardcore roots, all before it gives way to Hakim’s soulful, unhurried croon. Impressively, he manages to meld these disparate elements in a way that manages to immerse and transport. Leaving one a little shocked and disappointed to find when the bass drum finally fades out, that you haven’t moved an inch.
