Track of the Day: Parkay Quarts – Fell into the Wrong Crowd

Last week Thursday’s Track of the Day was the spectacular ‘Uncast Shadow of a Southern Myth’. This week, Parquet Courts as Parkay Quarts have dropped another single off the forthcoming Content Nausea due mid-November – their second offering this year after the excellent Sunbathing Animal. As mentioned last week, Savage and Brown are chopping and changing the line-up for this new offering and using the disclaimer-as-title to let fans know that rampant experimentalism is on the cards. Here, they team up with members from mysterious New York collective, PC Worship.

‘Fell into the Wrong Crowd’ is a depraved juxtaposition to the first single. For starters, it’s eleven unhurried minutes long, and blurs the lines between the band’s subconscious and what’s real. A beneath-the-surface groove undercuts the whole meditation, with patches of tuneful relief to bring it back to earth. The guys mentioned a 13th Floor Elevators influence on this record, which this track brings out with a menacing take on psychedelic concoctions. You can listen to the track here, but leave your expectations at the door:
