FACT recently wrote a piece on the ten best songs from PC Music, the experimental internet label known for their sharp and brutal pop production mixed with K-pop style pitch-shifted vocal samples. It is like a warped world full of acts like TATU and Aqua. Most interestingly they described it as the most divisive genre of 2014. The sheer weirdness of some of the singles off of the label, which includes Hannah Diamond’s infectious childish pleas, is testament to that and its claim to be the hyper-charged synthetic future of pop. So when PC Music head A.G Cook decided to team up with SOPHIE who produces some of the most inventive and maximal electro pop, as the project called QT, it was a moment you would either love or hate.

Their first single on indie doyen XL’s label is ‘Hey QT’ a remarkably silly act of wordplay that is indicative of PC Music. Fusing a vocal that sounds like a sped up Alvin the Chipmunk on helium with production that is a brittle as a jawbreaker, it is a mini-anthem for the post-internet babes. Whether or not this is music that is built to last is a redundant question; you simply have to revel in the bright colour-burst for as long as you can bear it.
