Tearjerker is a Toronto three-piece band that wears their dream-pop/shoegaze credentials so proudly on their sleeves that they once appeared on a covers album celebrating My Bloody Valentine’s Loveless. Following from the sumptuously beautiful ‘You Can their next single off their new EP Hiding charts a grittier but equally heady trajectory.

‘Another Moon’ opens up with the static hiss of an old tape recording and then proceeds to be littered with indecipherable incantations from vocalist Micah Bonte, whose hazy murmurs are filtered and then subsumed under various levels of hazy guitar feedback. As they proved on ‘You Can’ the trio has an unbelievable knack for consummate songwriting. And after a screeching guitar solo, the three-minute song reaches its dreamy climax by ratcheting up the tension by building a looping and crushing cloud of vocals and guitar hiss. Everyone seems to be doing dream-pop well nowadays but this obscure trio have never made it sound so subtly life-affirming.
