Philadelphia pop-punk duo The Weaks offer an energetic slice of repurposed American Pie-era Americana from their melodramatically titled EP, The World Is A Terrible Place And I Hate Myself And I Want To Die. On this single, as with most of the EP, the frenetic two-some revive the all-American guitar/drums motions, tight structure and congruously belted-out vocals first popularised in the 90s.
The track re-shapes the awkwardness and teen spirit in which the pair’s influences are bathed and diverts its reminiscent course to one of forward looking post-irony. This notion, and subsequently their fittingly off-beat sense of humour, are evidenced by the title of the song, contrasted by its 2:10 timespan. The EP can be ordered from their label’s webpage along with a bottle of their homemade chilli sauce. http://lameorecords.limitedrun.com/products/524298-the-weaks-the-world-is-a-terrible-place-and-i-hate-myself-and-want-to-die
