Tumi Molekane will release a new album. The project, titled Stogie T, will be T’s first release since he took on the moniker Stogie T, and will be released next week on 25 November, but is available for pre-order now.
The single ‘Diamond Walk’ is available instantly on pre-order. Judging from that single and Tumi’s September interview with The Plug SA, Stogie T will be the flashiest and more right-field Tumi has ever gone. In that interview he shares that “the album is about honey and pain, and everything in between.”
In that same interview, it’s revealed that the Stogie T alter ego started taking shape in the pop-inspired ‘Hello Kitty’, a 2014 song that didn’t go down so well with some longer-time Tumi fans.
Last year, Tumi wasn’t playing – he released three projects: a mixtape (Made of Taste), a collaborative EP with French production outfit Chinese Man (The Journey) and a full album (Return of the King). All those three projects had their own personalities, just like all of the emcee’s previous offerings.
‘Diamond Walk’ has the same feel as ‘Hello Kitty’, except that on the latter, Tumi raps more than he sings, and the music is bolder, thanks to the production of Tweezy. Tumi raps from the perspective of a blesser on the song, referencing things only rich people relate to.
One never knows what to expect with a Tumi album, which is the beauty of it. But we are always guaranteed, it will be a body of work we will definitely fall in love with.
