Cape Town-based rapper, Uno July, is no stranger to the game. With a career spanning 13 years, his contribution has not only taken the form of music creation and performance, but has also in the nurturing of younger musicians and rappers building their own careers. One of the more notable ways in which this has manifested is the monthly hip-hop event called Uno ‘n Only Nites. The 7th edition takes place tonight at The Waiting Room on Long Street and offers insight into an interesting method for young aspiring musicians to submit and distribute their music and videos.

According to its description, “Uno ‘n Only Nites is an event that usually presents an opportunity to two upcoming artists. Together with Stage360, Uno July is building a foundation and is continuously scouting, discovering and developing talent through various exposure and revenue opportunities, enabling them to establish themselves in the industry. ”

Stage360 is an innovative platform aimed at developing and empowering young talent in South Africa. Available on BBM, Stage360 allows musicians the opportunity to upload their content in order to be discovered through a pool of scouts, in partnership with Slikour onLife, TRACE South Africa and Turnkey Music.

Uno July will be headlining the event tonight, and through the submission process in partnership with Stage360, the following artists were chosen to feature alongside him: Gugulethu hip hop crew Supreme Swank and DJ Kay Faith, Camo, DJ Eazy and DJ Raiko. These five acts also stand the chance to win studio gear through the partnership with Turnkey Music.

Uno ‘n Only Nites is a great example of an artist playing the necessary role of entrepreneur, as well as of an experienced artist providing guidance to younger artists through the roles of mentor and facilitator.

Tickets for the event are available at the door for R40. For any further information about the event and how to submit your content through Stage360, head over to the event page here.
