Tomorrow night sees this month’s instalment of YOH! taking place at The Assembly. This month’s theme is ‘All Stars’ (replete with retro basketball aesthetic) and boasts a strong line-up, even by YOH!’s standards.
Christian Tiger School and John Wizards are the established headliners. The most interesting part of the line-up, though, might be The Sakawa Boys, who played their debut show two weeks ago at The Assembly’s Big 5 event with Ashtray Electric. They are something of a super group, with John Seth of New Loud Rockets teaming up with Skye Macinnes of Fever Trails and Keenan Nathan Oakes of Wildernessking. They share the shoegaze vision of trying to explore the breadth of sounds that guitars can possibly make.
As usual, a wide array of top DJs will be providing entertainment on both the main stage and The Annex, including Wildebeats and Damascvs, who help round off an impressive bill. Tickets are R40 before 10 and R50 after, though there are two competitions currently running that can get you in. The first asks you to post a picture of your favourite sports star on the event page tagging YOH! in your post and will get you guest list +2 and a R200 bar tab. The second asks you to share this picture and say what sports you played at school. The winner will get guest list +3.
Doors open at 19:50, and they will be screening two modern classics, Rocky and Space Jam from 8. As usual, free gift bags to the first 30 people through the door.
